PTE Test Overview

The Pearson Test of English (PTE) is a computer-based English language proficiency test that has gained global recognition for its fast results, AI-based scoring, and wide acceptance. There are three main types of PTE tests: PTE Academic, PTE Academic UKVI, and the newly introduced PTE Core.

PTE Academic

PTE Academic is designed for students planning to study in English-speaking countries. Accepted by thousands of institutions in Australia, Canada, the UK, USA, New Zealand, and more, this test evaluates real-life academic English skills. It includes four integrated modules:

• Speaking & Writing: Includes tasks such as read aloud, repeat sentence, describe image, retell lecture, answer short question, summarize spoken text, and write essay.
• Reading: Covers multiple-choice questions, paragraph re-ordering, and fill-in-the-blanks.
• Listening: Tests comprehension through audio clips, note summarization, and identifying missing or incorrect words.

Result

Result is usually available within 1–2 business days, and the test is scored on a scale of 10 to 90.

PTE Academic UKVI

PTE Academic UKVI is a Secure English Language Test (SELT) approved by the UK Home Office for visa and immigration purposes. It is identical in format, content, and scoring to PTE Academic but is taken at UKVI-approved test centers under secure conditions. This version is required for students applying for Tier 4 visas or those seeking work or settlement routes in the UK.

PTE Core

PTE Core is the latest version of the PTE test, tailored specifically for Canada's immigration and work purposes. Recognized by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), it focuses on practical, real-world English used in daily life and workplaces. Though similar in structure, PTE Core places more emphasis on communication skills for everyday contexts rather than academic settings.

Like the other versions, PTE Core has four modules; Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening and follows the same 10–90 scoring scale.
