How the SAT is Scored?

1. Raw Score:

You get 1 point for each correct answer. No penalties for wrong ones. Separate raw scores are calculated for EBRW and Math.

2. Scaled Score:

Raw scores are converted to scaled scores (200–800 per section) using a statistical process to adjust for slight differences in test difficulty. Total SAT Score = Math + EBRW (400–1600)

3. Percentile Rank:

This shows how your score compares to others. For example, a 70th percentile score means you scored better than 70% of test-takers. Colleges often look at both your scores and percentiles when reviewing applications.
