What is the SAT Exam?
The SAT is a standardized test that many colleges and universities in the United States use
during the admission process. It’s managed by a nonprofit organization called the College Board.
If you're planning to study in the U.S., the SAT score is one of the things that can help you
get accepted and even get scholarships.
The SAT checks how strong you are in reading, writing, and math. Here’s a quick breakdown of
what’s included:
This part is all about reading comprehension and grammar. You'll read short passages and answer questions that test how well you understood them. You’ll also be asked to spot and fix grammar and sentence structure mistakes.
2. Maths
This section tests how well you can solve math problems. Topics include algebra, geometry, data analysis, and other basic math skills. It’s about more than just solving equations. It also checks how well you can reason and think logically.
3. Essay (Optional):
The essay is not required, but some universities may still want it. If you choose to write it, you’ll read a passage and then write an essay analyzing the author’s argument and how well they made their case.

SAT Structure & Scoring Explained
Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW)
This section is split into two parts:
1. Reading Test2. Writing and Language Test
Math Section
This is divided into two parts:
1. Calculator Allowed2. No Calculator
How the SAT is Scored?
1. Raw Score:You get 1 point for each correct answer. No penalties for wrong ones. Separate raw scores are calculated for EBRW and Math.
2. Scaled Score:
Raw scores are converted to scaled scores (200–800 per section) using a statistical process to adjust for slight differences in test difficulty. Total SAT Score = Math + EBRW (400–1600)
3. Percentile Rank:
This shows how your score compares to others. For example, a 70th percentile score means you scored better than 70% of test-takers. Colleges often look at both your scores and percentiles when reviewing applications.
Scholarships and Financial Aid: What You Need to Know
Merit-Based ScholarshipsWhile some scholarships still rely heavily on SAT scores, many are shifting toward a more holistic approach. This means they also consider your financial need, leadership, community service, and overall academic profile. Always check the specific eligibility criteria for each scholarship.
Special College Programs
Honors programs and advanced academic tracks at certain universities may still require or favor high SAT scores. Be sure to look into individual program requirements when applying.
